Ja Kyung Kim, Diploma 5 student directed by Cristina Díaz Moreno and Efrén García Grinda, with Tyen Masten and John NG has received Diploma with Honours for her project “Oi, your shadow is over the line” (2012-2013).

The project is placed in the DMZ, in the border between North and South Korea.  Ja, “a Korean woman” as she describes herself, presented the project in the lecture hall at the A.A. describing the DMZ as a place with no signs, no cars and no lights, only wild animals and danger, as a no man’s land for 60 years between North and South Korea. She proposes a new approach to the understanding of a public space through the construction of a fake market and an inflatable meeting salon in a DMZ purely dominated by women. The spaces criticize men’s immature attitude in the political conflict between South and North Korea. Two chariots clean of mines the land and draw political signs planting seeds and irrigating them, acting as landscape printers. These territorial games aim to redefine the border and trigger a geo-political conflict purely conducted by women to reunify North and South Korea.

Ja received an overwhelming applause and obtained Diploma with Honors given by the tutors and was selected by the alumni as the best student of the year.
